A small group of peasants live in a hamlet perched high in the Alpes de Haute-Provence. They toil the land and keep pace with the seasons. When Bobi, a poet and bohemian of sorts, arrives on the scene, his relationship with the earth, its flora and fauna arouse feelings never experienced before. The pervading sense of sadness and depression gradually gives way to a hitherto unknown sensation: joy. Adapted from the novel by Jean Giono, Que ma joie demeure is a show performed in and with the outdoors, beyond the theatre walls, in the countryside and forests of the Île-de-France region. Clara Hédouin’s show-promenade translates the power of Giono’s writing to bring life to the fore.
Clara Hédouin joined ENS-Lyon in 2008, where she directed her first shows. From 2011, she trained as an actor at the Studio-Théâtre d’Asnières and then at the École du jeu. As an actor, she has worked with Gwenaël Morin, toured under the direction of Cosme Castro and Aude Thuries, and created and performed Suspended Beirut in conjunction with Mayya Sambar. In 2012, she embarked on a new creative project, Les Trois Mousquetaires – La Série, and began collaborating with Jade Herbulot and Romain de Becdelièvre. The adventure continued over the next eight years with the Collectif 49 701, with six shows and some twenty actors, touring the length and breadth of France, and performing in outdoor settings. Hédouin is authoring her doctoral thesis in Theatre Studies, “La tentation épique – épique et épopée sur les scènes françaises – 1989-2018”, under the joint supervision of Sophie Lucet and Christian Biet. In 2020, she launched a new project exploring the works of Jean Giono, in particular Que ma joie demeure, continuing her exploration of epic and collective forms for performance outside theatres.
