Starting from this chilling premise, Brett Bailey reinterprets Faust II, the second part of Goethe’s monumental masterpiece. Faust is bound to the devil, Mephisto, by an infernal pact: his soul will be forfeit if he ever finds inner peace. Driven by his megalomaniacal delusion, Faust meddles in the economies of the “Global South”, stages war games on the borders of the European Union and devises colossal technological projects designed to dominate society, the economy and nature. He even plans to conquer space. Is it fact or fiction?

Wandering a world where he feels nowhere at home, Faust is constantly on the move, driven by his insatiable thirst for intense experiences and power, often with tragic consequences.

With his troupe of masked South African performers, Brett Bailey has created a surreal, irreverent and visually captivating musical fable in which desire, temptation and reckless pursuit define the contours of a world on the brink of collapse in an unsettling reflection of our times.
