Eszter Salamon’s latest creation, conceived with eight dancers and an amateur choir, is an ensemble piece which draws from mummification rituals in the Capuchin catacombs of Palermo, Sicilian vocal traditions, and the Sicilian revolution of 1848. By bringing together remote historical and geographical times and traces, the piece seems to ward off oblivion through collective action and a fiction-based construction of memory.
